My Dad was Texan, my grandmother is from Texas, Texas museums fight with Michigan over my grandfather as he is one of the last surviving fighter aces and they want to claim him for the history books. My favorite college team is UT. Don't think I hate Texas. I just smack the arrogant ones cause I find it fun

I'm nationalistic. I went to school where almost all my friends where from NYC (they are just as arrogant as Texans, if not more so). I live in the south, North Carolina now, and have ment some of the "non transplants" who more then once show their arrogance which leads in my mind to ignorance. There are litterally people here who get offended that you don't have a Carolina draw, and if you have a north eastern accent ( I don't), some will tear into you saying "you don't belong here!"

It is not just Texas that is proud

However, Robert E. Lee would've displaced whoever was in charge when he joined the Confederacy as he was already the Unions best general before the Civil War started (Lee was given the option from Lincoln to be in charge, imagine the difference if Lee stayed with the Union).

Notice the wiki quote "this was 2 months before Lee joined the Condederacy."
Yeah its hard to say what would've have happened. But its a common theory that if Johnston would not have died, he would've been in line for Lee's position.

Lee was the best Union general, but considering the fact that Jefferson considered him the best general in the country at the time of his death, its hard to say if Lee would have displaced him or not. It would definately be a possibility, but like you said, the way politics worked, its all speculation.

He's from New England. Back in the mid 80's he spoke on his father's campaign with a New England accent. There's nothing wrong with New England, btw.
