Something good did come from that Green Lantern film. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively got married and they just had a baby. Also, Stephen Fry is gay and he just got engaged or married.
If bees did go extinct, we could always hire people to dress up as bees and pollinate flowers with tiny feather dusters. Sure it'd be more expensive, but there are also millions of idle teens.

Prescription pain killers kill more Americans than guns or car accidents.

Roughly 70% of inmates in California spent some time in foster care while growing up. The US spends $84 billion/year to incarcerate people ($44K/prisoner).

EMDR is the most efficacious treatment for adult-onset PTSD.

Roughly 80% of children with ADHD have excessive Delta waves, which are most common during sleep.

Inattentive, pushy, and intrusive parental behavior towards a 6 month old baby frequently results in hyperactive kids with attention problems in kindergarten.

I learnt that not all electronic music sucks.
We're a lukewarm people for all our feast days and hard work.
Not much touches us, but we long to be touched. We lie awake
at night willing the darkness to part and show us a vision. Our
children frighten us in their intimacy, but we make sure they
grow up like us. Lukewarm like us

female rats can be simultaneously impregnated with sperm from multiple males. Great way to keep the gene pool diverse.

There are plans to bring back the X-Files with Duchovny and Anderson.

Roughly 70% of the immune system (the T-cells) is found in the gut.

HIV requires two receptors to infect and kill the T-cells and 1 in 300 Americans and 1 in 100 Europeans have a natural immunity to HIV due to a mutation in one of the receptors. These people can become infected with HIV but will survive without any medications.

There have been about 3 functional cures for HIV already, but they're very expensive treatments costing over $300,000.

Otis Redding recorded "Sitting By the Dock of the Bay" just 3 days before he died in a plane crash; it was his only number 1 hit. Bummer.
