I guess if you aren't the type to have SLS in your toothpaste touch your skin and it starts peeling, you wouldn't have any reasons to brush your teeth with the soap. I never would have considered using it that way! O.o

Yes, the less extraneous material involved, the better.

PP, can you use baking soda for toothpaste? Or I know Weleda makes some SLS-free toothpastes. Probably Tom's of Maine too.

Weleda. Heard of them. I may have to give that a try.

I can and have used baking soda many times in the past, but it tends to aggravate a condition I have, so I just use it when I've run out of toothpaste (hahaha, Ni obliviousness again...). Tom's makes a great peppermint toothpaste that I've used for years. I've been meaning to try some of their glycerin soap, but frankly, I get really tired just thinking of all the time it's going to take breaking my immune system into it. Dealing with the body sensations for weeks or months until it decides something is all right.

I used to use Kiss My Face's olive oil bar soap - just three ingredients. I began reacting to the saponification agent. Go figure.

Thank God I'm going to see a rheumatologist in Sept. and get this over with.
