    I don't have a fear of them, but I do have a deep loathing for them when they are in my house, coupled with a fascination for their alien-ness. It almost seems like the hive is the organism and each individual ant is a cell.

    Three days ago I saved a mosquito from a spider web.

    I am one of those people that can't step on ants.

    I also let flies out of the house, not because they are annoying, but so that they don't starve.

    Once I was walking down the stairs of my apt carrying a duffle bag and this bee, or wasp, or small bird with claws and a stinger throwing up gang signs, came and stung me on the back. Sharp pain shot down my arms as I threw my bag down the stairs and yelled like a girl. It wasn't my coolest moment, but it might have been the creature's.
