The last time I got worked up over something, was when my cousin would not quit asking what I wanted. I finally said "That if I cared I would let you know, but I never care, so shut up lets go their to get drinks" (we were discussing where to get drinks the other night)

Let me try to answer your question:

I think there are three main reasons:

a/ Some people take ownership in the threads and posts that they create. Moreover, they invest emotional value, time, and a calculated thought-process into their work as well. Hence, anything that contradicts their thought process, plan, or strategy is viewed as an affront to them in a personal sense. Therefore, a blow-back results.

b/ Some people over-react as a strategy to create controversy in order to be entertained, amused, or as a way to attract attention to themselves.

c/ Some people just don't understand how this forum - or forums in general - are moderated, managed, controlled, etc.

Also, it seems unrealistic at best and disingenuous at worst to assume the stance that if it's on the webs then it is completely unreal, and does not really count. It's not an alternate reality people, and you are not dealing with bots created for your amusement.

no but do people really need to make a deal out of it? it's the same thing with celebrities everyone makes a big deal when something happens but if they weren't famous we probably would not care.

Well, the affairs of celebrities are almost always completely unrelated to the people who read about them in magazines or see them on television, whereas a person posting on an internet forum is directly involved in what happens on the forum (especially when events occur that deal specifically with them).

My point is you do not know these people that well, that if they said something to you in the street it wouldn't be a big deal. So why is it a big deal on here
