Default How to get around small talk without looking like a complete dick.

Yes there are situations where it's required, it doesn't matter why you're there, but you're stuck there and you have to talk to people you don't know nor want to know because the people you do know and like are who knows where, so what are some things you do?

me I find something that needs to be done (if something needs to be straightened, or cleaned up, anything that will need to be taken care of I will do. so by being busy I don't have stand awkwardly around. And I get told that I'm helpful or whatever. they think I'm being nice, when in reality I just don't want to talk to them.

or I go smoke, (this is one reason why I haven't quit) as long as I have situations like this I'm smoking so I have an excuse to leave for 5-10 minutes

    so I need more tips

Oh, I thought this was going to be a tutorial!

So, do you want tips to be busy or tips for talking or both?

i guess both would work, but i prefer to be busy personally. I'm sure there's people here who would want tips for talking

Minimal eye contact, body language indicating not wanting to engage, short terminal responses.

Only the persistent will keep going, and that's infrequent.

So? I've never experienced much flack from it, and when I have it's really easy to put out. I was under the assumption you were speaking of individuals you likely won't see ever again though.

I usually find a way to make the conversation offbeat and humorous, because I don't know how to do regular small-talk. On a busy day at work, I'll spend a lot of time as a cashier, and I learned just to free-associate and take the tedious conversations into novel places. Have you ever tried kinda leading with your Ne and letting that zany charm shine through? I find you quite the ticklish conversationalist, myself.
