I do as much of my shopping at TJs as I can. It's less expensive to buy there than even the WalMart grocery store here, for most things. So I get as much as I can at TJs and go to WM for the rest, with occasional jaunts to the co-op because I feel like I should be supporting my local community (and I like taking my laptop and working there).

Really? I never really shopped at TJ's personally. My mom loved that store but I thought I remembered it being quite over priced. Guess I'm wrong.

Whole Foods is overpriced IMO, but TJs is very reasonable.

I know, and I really wish it were reversed, because there is a Whole Foods about 100 yards from my front door. :steam:

Does being born there and visiting a lot count as being a Californian? Having friends there and being familiar with Berkeley / San Francisco? (I never lived there, per se, for more than a year at a time)

As for stores, the first thing I think about when I hear 'supermarket' is Safeway!

The question is - Do you want to be a Californian? You can be anything you want if you put your mind to it.

Where exactly did you live in the bay area?

Berkeley... for some reason I was born right outside of San Francisco (like, in a hospital in some town you never heard of ten minutes from the bridge). Spent a fair amount of time in Berkeley and obviously some time in the city as well... occasionally hung out with some people from Oakland.

I occasionally get two responses from my accent... "oh you're so from the Upper East Side (NYC)" and "why do you sound so much like a hippie?" ... I think my accent changes automatically depending on mood, company...
