    I hardly think scholarly research and the collection or certain materials qualifies as being "involved." I've never been so insulted in all my years of foruming! How VERY dare you!

    they're called scholarly because they're done by scholars who have studied human-gnomial relations in depth.

    I shudder to think what kind of "depth" you are thinking of. I've had all the anti-gnome sentiment I can stand for one evening, and if the mods will not step in, I will no longer be a party to your trolling — excuse me: I mean "humaning" — behavior!!!

    I'm afraid I'd have to find some Nac Mac Feegles to run them out. If I'm going to have small humanoid creatures causing mischief in my home, they've got to at least wear kilts. I'd rather have Brownies, though, and I'd put some milk out to attract them, but the cat would drink it and get diarrhea.
    “There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

    Only when confined to their domes with their copies of Ethan Frome.
    You hem me in -- behind and before;
    you have laid your hand upon me.
    Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain.
