No because it would alienate people from me. And let's face it, it's just a car.

It's somewhat correlated with the fascination that a lot of women have with the guys riding them.

You don't have to care about cars to enjoy top gear. It's funny.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

Technically, I would buy a Corvette, but I voted yes for the spirit of little fast cars.

i am wondering about the level of psychological self-justification in this thread for the naysayers (possibly myself included? hmm)... i mean, we've all made various choices in our life that brought us to our current economic realities. maybe in doing so there's a psychological need to justify the difference between where we are and where we "could have being if only" by belittling the lifestyle differences. if we are to genuinely imagine the "we could afford it" scenario, we must account for that factor and take that out.

there's also a difference in social setting: it's quite possible that if i or any of us naysayers could afford it, it would mean we are working and clubbing it up with other people who can afford it. so imagine a scenario that you have friends with ferrari's and they tell you how awesome it is to drive it, and once in awhile when going for drinks you became the designated driver and ended up driving it, and it genuinely felt better.

these are factors we (naysayers) aren't accounting for.

    p.s.

Me too. I didn't get the car gene...reliability and good value are what I care about. If it looks cool, that's a bonus, but I am not paying for it. I wouldn't even drive if I didn't have to.
