No, we were always this stupid.

My question is who activates these emails? Wouldn't the site administrators be "whisked away" as well? How can a computer program know that the rapture has occurred?
Why do we always come here?

    I guess we'll never know.

    Didn't you read the article?

    It was answered right there.

My favorite part is that the whole enterprise hinges on an assumption that the operators of the business will be included in the rapture. I can't claim to know him personally, but I would suspect God frowns on hubris.

Wow, that brings back memories. When I was in high school I read the entire "Left Behind" series. Obviously it didn't do much to scare me into religious submission, but it was still an entertaining story.

I believe in the rapture, but that doesn't mean I'm going to pay some guy $40/year from now until whenever it happens so I can tell people "NeenerNeenerNeener! Jesus likes me better than you!!!" assuming I don't get left behind myself. Not like I have anything in my bank account anyway and if I did, the last person I'm going to trust it with is some Christian guy I don't know.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

I am curious where the Christian Bible itself supports the rapture.

lol.... sorry, I keep flipping to the Bort Melfry site and get confused.

I don't remember, but it's in the article somewhere. Where he says if "at least 3 of the 5 system admins don't log in over a consecutive six day period, the e-mails go out."

of course, if the Rapture happens and it turns out only two of them were acceptible to God, I guess the whole system is hosed. The beauty is that there's no one to honor the "money back guarantee" if they have one.

    (Ha ha, another loophole!)

The article/comments themselves say the Rapture never existed until around the late 1800's, as a doctrine, in the form it exists now with La Haye and others.

It basically doesn't. There are some passages about being "being with the Lord" and some cryptic passages about the tribulations, but there's nothing specifically about the rapture or the precise nature of what will happen in the end times. Those were mostly made up by crazy rural white people in the 19th century.

So these emails are going to be six days late? That's no good, when is the new Jerusalem coming? They could miss it. They need some non-believers on staff.
