Anything along the lines of "What are you feeling/thinking?". If I want you to know, I'd have told you already.

    "What are you thinking?"

If I told you, you would cry.

Why are you burying me in the crawlspace?
What's that bright light and metallic screech coming from the basement?
Why have the bats made you Queen?
Why is Edahn clinging to your shapely leg and pleading for you to give him your frilly panties?

Answer to them all: Because/Nothing/Because/He's not brave enough to buy his own at the mall

OH MY GOD? You get that too? People ask me that all the time! It's really awkward when I am trying to get some reading done in the library.

And just WHY does he seem to strike when you're in the thick of the Dewey Decimal system?! I've lost my place dozens of times!

You have my sympathy. (And share my plague... O.o)

    You too, huh?

I get that all the time. People over here pray for everything. It's the most hypocritical thing I've ever seen. Now that you stand a good chance of dying you begin to preach god? Then when you come back home, it's business as usual.

I'll see someone; "Blah blah Oh heavenly father blah blah", and I'm just left thinking; "I've seen you come back to the barracks at 1 A.M. with a stripper". Don't get me wrong, I'm no saint, but I don't go preaching the word of god either.

Then I get told flat out "I'm wrong" because I don't believe in god.
Do me a favor, go fuck yourself.

I often hear people on the forum say that they don't like to socialize with people much because topics tend to be too superficial.

I'm wondering if this is so, how do you expect people to move into "deeper" topics (whatever those are) without first going into the "less deep" topics? Is it the fact that people ask personal questions (which I think can be quite "deep") rather than impersonal questions? Are people looking for particular questions that are "deeper" than others, like topical conversations (art, science, film, etc)?

I guess it's the way the topic comes up in the first place. For example, I'd rather have someone say "are you going to have kids?" vs. "why aren't you going to have kids?/why haven't you had kids yet?" I can see how a conversation about one's choice in the matter could segue into a "deeper" conversation.

What is safe to ask that's not too personal and yet satisfies a lack of superficiality? Some questions are rote and basic, but if you don't get those pesky little facts about the person out of the way, how does one move onto more satisfying conversation? If I don't ask, "so what are your hobbies?" how will I know that we both have an avid interest in OPI nail polishes?!

These are questions that for me, tend to be asked by the same darn people over and over and over, and they've recieved sincere answers, but they keep on asking.

What you need is an Edahn to repel them.

Will you do me a favor?

followed by a long pause, as if I'm going to answer that question before you tell me what the favor is

There needs to be a pocket sized version for taking to work and family events. I admit, I have a sister-in-law I would very much enjoy seeing go head to head with Edahn.
