With some people, I just 'click' well with and I have to put next to zero conscious effort into being liked. With others, there's more effort involved. With a small percentage, they won't like me no matter what.

You know that guy who you hate, despite the fact that you don't know anything about him?
A man builds. A parasite asks 'Where is my share?'
A man creates. A parasite says, 'What will the neighbors think?'
A man invents. A parasite says, 'Watch out, or you might tread on the toes of God... '
I think, generally, if I like someone I act in a manner that makes them like me more without necessarily consciously deciding to do so.
I have heard pretty consistently that I am naturally funny in person (obviously it doesn't translate to the internet). That's lead people I barely know to like me before.
Strangely, I think I'm considerably more likable when talking to a group or in a group setting than when talking to someone one on one (a situation in which I tend to be very brief with my statements and awkward to talk to and incapable of finding engaging small talk unless I know the person relatively well).
