Default "Cheer up! There are people worse off than you!"

Never really got that one. You're having a bad day, and someone says, "Hey look. That guy's life really sucks!" It'd be pretty twisted if that made you happy.

Also, by iterative reduction, there's got to be some poor sap, somewhere on the planet, who has no one he can refer to that has a suckier life than his. What do people tell him?

That poor sap doesn't exist. Once you run out of people with suckier lifes on earth, just start naming off names of people burning in hell.

Sucks just a little to be dead, though.

Hey, I hadn't thought of that! Now I feel downright exuberant. Or, I would if I believed in hell. (Kinda makes me wanna believe.)

Ehh, I don't really believe in hell either. Oh well, but maybe that poor sap will buy it.

I never got this "pick-me-up" either. I think making a gratitude list is so much better.

I have yet to find something that genuinely cheers me up besides time. It's like people who try to cheer me up just makes me madder. When someones "like people are worse then you" I feel guilty which makes feel worse. Though the "you're not bleeding to death" helps some what to put things into perspective. And do not say t"hings will get better". I already know this it always does.
    In no likes experiment.

    that is all

i dunno what else to say so

I wonder about this, too. I don't think it really works that way. Their lives may have more hardships, but to those who have always been in hardship, they find happiness in very simple things...like finding a few days worth of clean water. They have been desensitized to the pain. This must be the case, I sometimes think.

I hate it when people try to forcibly cheer me up by pointing out someone else's suffering. That only makes my bad mood worse!! Now I'm not just upset, I'm aware of someone else's acute suffering too!! WTH?!

"Cheer up! There are people worse off than you!"

The only thing worse is going up in Texas and being told over and over: "It's hotter in Africa."
