I am really trying to refrain from posting further in this thread because I already spoke my piece and I respect CC's right to guide the discussion in her own thread. But I feel compelled to say that I believe in God, and I further believe that the Bible is the single biggest obstacle between people and God. As a matter of both doctrine and personal conviction, the majority of Christians do not believe in the Bible as the literal word of God. There has been too much creative license, translation, re-translation, backroom squabbling, politicking and general chaos involved in its assembly and editorial process for me to see it as anything but a volume of general inspiration. It's the source of most of the bickering between denominations, and it's the source of most of the hateful ideology that masquerades as Christianity.

"Being a Christian isn't for sissies," Cash said once. "It takes a real man to live for God—a lot more man than to live for the devil, you know? If you really want to live right these days, you gotta be tough."

Johnny Cash can eat a bag of dicks and "living right" by Christian standards is based on ancient desert tribal culture.

    The dude could rock though.

I'm late to this thread, I didn't read all of the posts, I might have missed something.... But I don't like this comment about theists posing under the intellectual safety of agnosticism.

I consider myself an agnostic. Are you implying that all agnostics are posers and fence sitters? Perhaps that they are all actually theists?
    Go to sleep, iguana.

Nope, not all, I was referring to a specific type of "agnostic", namely, theists posing under the intellectual safety of agnosticism.
