    Yes, if smileys did not exist, Whatever would be forced to invent them.

    Sometimes you just don't know if she's being serious or not.

    I dunno, I have no problem in seeing the seriousness or playfulness for what it is...

    I have plenty of posts with a lot fewer emoticons, but whenever I'm in the exact wrong mood (or a super good mood) I use lots of emoticons just because of complaints

    (I'm a pretty energetic speaker in real life )
    So you're either using them just to piss people off, or because you're actually that excited?

    A lack of oxygen can do some whacky things to your vital organs.

    I think Whatever uses the smileys precisely because she's an extrovert. I'm an introvert, but in real life, I'm very expressive when I speak, too. (We had that discussion about body language in her blog)--for some of us, emoticons are useful, because then, you convey the tone of the author, which is always useful to know, rather than just the words, which may be misconstrued when you do not have the body language to read as well, as in an online forum.
    You gave me hyacinths first a year ago;
    They called me the hyacinth girl.
    Yet when we came back, late, from the Hyacinth garden,
    Your arms full, and your hair wet, I could not
    Speak, and my eyes failed, I was neither
    Living nor dead, and I knew nothing,
    Looking into the heart of light, the silence.

    Perhaps Whatever can do wacky things to your vital organs if you're nice to her!

    *I'm sorry, that just popped out and it was so funny!*
