Have a party! Invite the old friends and some new people. You'll get to see your old friends and perhaps make some new ones. Win-win

    Oh, and *hugs*!

Indeed that can get rather irritating. Never a peace of mind. At least it managed to get me a gift. A book about Emotional Intelligence...

I'd get them a children's book on how to count as a thank you gift.

I don't need hugs, I'm soothed by vindictiveness!

This is not to say that they'll replace the old ones, just that you'll eventually not feel so lonely anymore.

I definitely cried when my parents said goodbye to me. It was really awkward actually, because I had to go get a physical examination at the athletic trainer's immediately after (for sports), so it was in front of my whole team and the whole football team and all the athletic training staff... yeah pretty special.
Your kisses, sweeter than honey. But guess what, so is my money.

    A good idea.
They will also be displeased to dub the book I received as worthless.

I remember thinking I was the only person who cried in the shower because I was so lonely at college, until I barged into one of my most social, outgoing hall mate's rooms to ask about homework and found her curled up on her bed all swollen eyed. Turns out she was totally homesick, too. We snotted up tissues on the bed together and watched Monty Python together. Ten years later, she's still one of my best friends.

More likely than not, most of the people around you are going through the same crap. Have a cry, go run or whatever calms you down, take a deep breath, and go put yourself out there a little. It'll get better.
I think I think more than you think I think.

Still, it's better to feel lonely alone than to feel lonely when you're surrounded by people.
