    Default Beer from a bottle

so I went out to dinner with a friend where I decided I wanted wings and beer for dinner. The beer comes (corona) and she's like "you know, that's in a bottle"

    and I'm like "Yeah..."

"I would never drink out of a bottle my sorotity won't allow, plus it seems dirty" I then called her an elitist and said that the beer tasted the same.and I didn't see the point in dirtying a glass

So I'm wondering if any one else has a problem with drinking beer from a bottle, and why? what's so bad with beer from a bottle?

Besides a slightly different taste...I really don't see what the difference is. And more importantly...Shiner Bock doesn't come in a can (as I recall).

Drinking from a vessel marked for advertising can indicate middle or proletarian class. How high class is this sorority girl?

You can always ask for a glass...

For me, it's just about taste, and I'll take the best I can get in this order:

    1. Drafted from a cask
    2. Glass bottle, poured into a glass
    3. Glass bottle, straight out of the bottle

Up to about three years ago I'd have added 4 - from a can poured into a glass and 5 - from a can. But I can no longer abide beer from cans in any form. Yeuch.

However, etiquette is fairly important to me as well, so if I were to be given a drink in a context where the manner of serving it wasn't appropriate, I'd look around to observe whether it was the usual custom in that place and if so, fall in. If not, I'd ask for some kind of adaptation - usually a glass - from the bartender or waiter. If none were available, I'd order something else.

One has to have standards, you know

    dont care, personally.

i think anyone who really makes that big a deal out of it must have too much free time.

I think cans impart a weird taste, but I've never noticed that from a bottle. I'm with you, why dirty a glass for appearances when the opinion is one you'd dismiss anyway? Once she said "my sorority says..." I'd have tuned her out anyway.

By the way, it doesn't taste the same as in a glass. At least, not if it's half decent beer. Not to me, anyway. No, no it's not just me... I clearly remember many a wine/beer tasting session in France and Germany where the experts would run tasting sorta lessons, and they always said that it makes a difference to the flavour when you have it in a glass (for the better). Increasing the surface area releases the aromas and stuff and totally does make a difference.

I have a lot of free time.

If you want to lift yourself up a notch in class - Separate yourself from the branding by pouring the beer into a glass and get rid of the bottle.

If you want unaltered taste - Stick with the bottle. Your bound to get dish soap residue in the glass.
