I was definitely surprised at the two months for Sim but of course, there is a lot of stuff the mods know that we don't, like how many times he was warned about particular things. I'll miss his posts over the next couple of months.

Because I doubt anyone can cite an instance in which someone sent to the Graveyard was a changed man upon his release.

If it's an established member they've usually received at least 3 infractions within the preceding 6 months (and before that informal and/or formal warnings) and unless they explode they've generally been warned that continuing the behaviour that earned them their infractions will result in a ban. Getting 3 infractions is no easy fate unless someone is actually trying to earn them.

So it should not be a surprise to them, although I wouldn't underestimate an individual's inability to comprehend why their trolling is viewed as trolling. In short most people who are banned do so because they refuse to change their behaviour despite warnings.

Has temp-banning worked better then (as far as changing behavior)?

I doubt it. But if it doesn't improve behavior, at least it gets the person out of everyone's hair.

seemed to work for Jag pretty good and regardless if it has a rehabilitation affect or no it nevertheless gets them off the main forum which is the apparent problem in the first place. (unless they are giving PM death treats or something outrageous, but I doubt that is the transgression in most cases)

Trolling is still unacceptable in the graveyard. If someone is going to continue trolling in the graveyard then a temp confinement is futile.

My question is, why are these bans announced?

Hey, Highlander. I haven't been around as much. Darn it! I missed a sw and Z banning? Can you give me a link to that/those threads that caused the banning?

Most likely to deter the inevitable threads asking "Why was so and so banned?"
That tend to pop up on forums than don't announce bans or have a ban list.
