    Actually, I am not picking on them at all.

    I think it's important to get past the glamorized version of what the media tells us we can (and should) look like... and see these "cover stars" as average normal people, so we don't need to feel like we have to match their sanitized image, which apparently is unrealistic.

    It's realistic, from age 14 to about 25 or so. Some genetically gifted individuals with good exercise and nutrition habits push it further than that. I think the problem with Hollywood and the fashion industry isn't that they worship beauty (which they do), but rather that they worship youth.

    Heh. There's a scene in the John Cusack film Identity in which a fortyish, slightly plump Rebecca DeMornay features in a fairly minor role. When her character shows up at the motel, one of the other characters says to her "Hey... didn't you used to be that actress...?"

    I about rolled on the floor. It was the perfect line to deliver to DeMornay.
