    Default Uber's new pet peeve...

I hate the way Internet comic strips place "LOL" after the punchline. It's an insult to the reader and ruins a good joke.

Here's an example. Not really a comic, but close enough.

Perfectly good wordplay at the bottom right corner of the image is made, but with a blunt and unnecessary "LOL," as if they think I would not have gotten it otherwise. An amusing image that nonetheless is an insult to my intelligence.

EDIT: If you are bothered by macabre imagery, please do not click on the link. You have been warned.

I don't know how effective it is elsewhere, but here the "lol" just seems to be attempting to convince me that this is funny. (Though it still falls on the "unfunny" side of my funny-unfunny scale.) It's like the laugh track principle, right? It's okay to laugh if other people are.

Or it's an attempt to prove they are not psychos, merely joking.

    Exactly. That's what I meant.

I dunno, I just like macabre photos with James Bond or Schwarzenegger wordplay. And if the wordplay is not existent, I invent my own...without the "LOL."

That was the photo that sparked up my peeve once again -- it came from one of those MySpace bulletins, so I knew exactly where it was.

Besides, it would've been perfectly funny if it weren't for the "LOL."

Do you have Asperger's? Can't remember, but I think it was you who said you did...

Just to let you know... it wasn't the "LOL" that would've stopped it being funny for many people... there's something else, much more obvious...

EDIT: And that link is not for the weak stomach.
OMG, thank you for burning that into my retinas.

You really shouldn't trick people into clicking on pictures of dead people in gory horrific accidents. It might piss people off. Like me.

WTF. If I wanted to look at that I'd visit those websites.

I'm ignoring your threads from now on.

Yes I did say that...several times, actually. Why do you ask?

I do believe that I specifically warned those who can't stomach certain imagery. (Besides, haven't you ever watched horror movies?) I just forgot the site address where I saw comic strips with similar captions. Otherwise, I would've shown those instead. This just happened to be the most recent one I saw, restarting my irksome feelings about the matter.

And I don't know what site the photograph came from. As I said, it was a MySpace bulletin post by someone else.
