    Also, does anyone else feel embarrassed to be in the same room as television adverts?

    They just evoke a visceral embarrassment.

    Yes. Ever since I was a kid - this is one of the earliest sensations I can remember in my lifetime. I felt the same way in toy stores.

    I think it must be something to do with the (semi) aware insincerity of it.

    It's just irritatingly cringe-worthy, especially now I'm older knowing someone is getting paid for it.

    I don't know whether to hope she does, or hope she doesn't realize how much her family's wealth contributed to her success when she talks that way. Not that they paid her rent - it's more complex than that. There's the tradition of doing expensive things, ventures that would for most people would be financially risky. All these family members did this thing, so it looks like baseline adulting from that position.

    [just bitter because over time I can relate to this person I was once closer to less and less, and have less to contribute to any conversation about what she does - fuck, I even had a crush on her for a while]
