WHY ARE THERE SO MANY PRETTY SHOES, DAMMIT???

Terrible things happen to good people every day.
Consequentially, I am not one of the good people.
I am one of the terrible things.

so pissed that i was born like this in this time and place. i really don't belong here. i never really had feelings like that as a child, i always embraced life and felt great. but the more i come to know and love myself, the more i feel like those things i know and love don't have a place here.

just gotta grind and smile and iron your clothes and make an appointment and set up your online bill pay but then mail it in when the system is down for repairs and update your plates or else you're in BIG TROUBLE MISTER.

seriously fuck everything. maybe once i die, the next world will be a little more my style.
    You hem me in -- behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

I'm racking my brain over a programming issue I'm having with one of the devices at work. I've tried everything and I'm almost certain the problem isn't electronic outside of the processor itself. I'm about to hail Mary this by blaming a relay node though after checking the oscillators and voltage dividers feeding the the power and timing circuitry to the processor, which all read within spec, I doubt I'll figure out anything at this point.

Its very J structured. I understand, i do my best to avoid all that. I cant tell you how many times i had to go to post office to get my mail because my mail box filled up. Give me something physically or mentally challenging and i am all over it, walking across street to mailbox is just a beating.
Take what I say with a grain of salt, because that's all it is compared to the ocean of complexity when it comes to actions and real life.

Time is money, what gives the best bang for buck. Replace or continue to troubleshoot?

Mhm. So where do we go? Is there a society on this planet that's set up for a dreamy ass perceiver? Or did I just lose that lottery?

Sometimes it does come down to an issue of volume vs. efficiency and depending on the circumstance one is better to prioritize over the other. In this case I can do some in depth troubleshooting because my volume of defects is low.

    However:

I just solved the issue by isolating the relay node. Turns out my script error was due to an unsoldered connection on one of the pins to the node.
So I fixed it and I like seeing this result:

Figure out what matters the most to you in life and put that at the forefront. Dont follow the crowd on what you need or have to have. Do what makes you the happiest. Life is not all fun and games, but that doesnt mean we need to make decisions in life that minimize the fun and games. Dont get sucked in to far into the "if i just do this or that" tunnel of demise. Step back and ask yourself if there is another way, do i even reallycare, is it just other people feeding me with what i SHOULD do.

    What Poki said.

Nothing in life is ever solely on your own terms. And when you get close to having things solely on your own terms, life gets very, very lonely and boring. (I've been there and done that. We INTJs like to have everything on our terms!)

I'll tell you a secret: You don't really know what you want.

I mean this in a good way, not as an accusation of ignorance, but as a statement of the human condition. The problem with life isn't that it doesn't conform to your desires, but that you don't understand your desires, you don't understand who you really are, well enough to make choices that will make you happy.

That understanding slowly develops over time. In my own life, I didn't know that I really wanted/needed to learn to dance. It's a part of who I am now, but for many decades it wasn't, and I had no way of KNOWING that it was something I needed. Once I knew it, it was eye-opening. Mostly, just let yourself be open to new experiences and see what comes up (which shouldn't be a problem as an e7 Ne-dom!).

In the meantime, given your type 7 Enneagram, that means that you tend to run away from problems you don't want to deal with, and you tend to resent that the problems chase after you and bite you in the rear. Type 9s have a similar problem of avoiding conflict. In both cases the fix really and truly is to face those problems head on, take care of them proactively, and most of the time they will stop plaguing you. Both as 7 and 9 we tend to see the problems as bigger than they really are, when very often they only take minimal effort to fix - we're just repelled by the idea of having to fix them. (We're totally the opposite of type 1s in this regard!)

Happiness doesn't arise from "having no problems", happiness arises from "being capable of handling the problems you have". There is nothing more freeing than realizing that whatever fit might hit the shan, you know you can handle it as easily as 007 can navigate a casino.

You might be interested in this thread that I started recently: The Elephant and the Rider - Jonathan Haidt's Positive Psychology One of the books I mention (and link) in the thread, The Happiness Hypothesis, goes into great detail about what comprises human happiness in psychological terms. It's not a self-help book, and it doesn't offer easy answers, but it does give a good idea how to look for YOUR answers, if that makes sense.
An argument is two people sharing their ignorance.

A discussion is two people sharing their understanding, even when they disagree.
