Don't worry about the kids in Africa. Worry about some problem right in your own backyard, that you have a chance of affecting, and that taps into your talents and interests. There are many ways to help make the world a better place.

I'm not sure how my talents and interests could possibly help.. maybe GIS? Usually to help people you have to enjoy interacting with a lot of them.

Though I do admit my own backyard has a lot of problems that are harder for me to dismiss, probably because I shouldn't.
I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

Not at all. I volunteer with a community group by taking care of their website; minimal interaction needed, though I do attend meetings sometimes. There are groups that pick up litter on roads and public places; build/renovate houses for the poor (e.g. Habitat); foster animals, etc. Even the groups that focus on serving people directly have lots of work that is more behind-the-scenes, like the website stuff I do. Start with what you enjoy doing or do well, and go from there.

For a person with such a tough (see: husband-beating) persona, your drunken insults are really feeble. We not even mad. @offline person

    Oh. Never mind.

I was worried there for a second. I thought I might have to *gasp* clean off my desk.

But I had some KFC a short while ago, and would throw a riot if it ever got banned.
