I honestly liked Tiffany and Martika better than Debbie Gibson - I thought she was kind of a "goody-goody" for some reason, and I hated those stupid hats she wore - and then I moved on to hair metal and "college radio" as it was called before it became "alternative"... but this was my favorite Debbie Gibson song:
My new rant is about my totally screwing up posting that vid. However, your talk of hair metal and "college radio" has eased my mind. I saw just about every hair metal(I call it glam rock) band going at the time. Now its time for some Jesus & Mary Chain, and then (CVB) I may take the skinheads bowling, take them bowling!
ps...of all things I never would have guessed I would ever say here, the above has to be right up on the list!
Well I didn't see any glam rock or hair metal bands in concert because I was way too young and my grandparents would have killed me. By the time I was in high school everything was full-blown "alternative." So that means I saw Alice in Chains, The Cure, and Primus. Bands like that. Plus a bunch of old Southern rock/classic rock bands when I started going to outdoor music festivals.
I did get to see a lot of the 80's metal bands. I went to almost all of the concerts that came thru town. The big difference was that tix were $10 not $50! so if a show sucked it wasn't a big deal. Plus the pre & post parties were almost more fun than the concerts themselves! (which were cool for the most part)
i hate having something early the next morning. i mean, like 9:30 or 10 am is a reasonable time for events, but 6, 7, 8? really? then i get to 12 at night when i get all my best work done and i'm like, fuck, i really ought to sleep, but i am in the middle of x-and-so project. so either i miss out on the project or i miss out on feeling awake the next morning. seriously dislike both options
