    Question favorite/least favorite holiday songs

So I was wondering- what are you guys' favorite and least favorite holiday songs?

(there- I've added a bit of festive cheer to the board!)

Least Favorite- either Here Comes Santa Clause or Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (for goodness sake- we're not supposed to be depressed about the holidays!)

Favorite- Los Peces en el Rio (lovely song!)

I hate all the old christmas carols about baby jeebus. An instrumental version of Handel's Messiah is probably my favorite. First Noel gets special mention since it's the only song I can play on my penny whistle.

My favorites: Linda Eder's version of Do You Hear What I Hear (it gives me chills), and There's Always Tomorrow (from the Rudolph TV special).

My least favorites: Christmas Shoes (depressing, manipulative dreck) and Feliz Navidad (the earworm from Hell)

And of course, when they originally thought of doing the "jazz music" as background, the execs were all squeamish about it.

With an exception for "Jingle Bell Rock" and a couple of original Chipmunks numbers, I dislike most postwar pop tunes -- especially "Feliz Navidad" and Lennon's "Happy Christmas," in response to which I will cross rooms and shut radios.

Traditional and ancient carols I enjoy greatly, and find most arrangements -- from medieval consorts to Mannheim Steamroller -- worthwhile. "Personent Hodie," "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and "Lo, How a Rose 'Ere Blooming" stand out, and I make time for Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio.

I tend to like traditional stuff - the newer ones just get annoying really fast.

Although I am totally in love with every track on Josh Groban's new Christmas album, Noel:

    Silent Night
    Little Drummer Boy
    I'll Be Home For Christmas
    Ave Maria
Angels We Have Heard On High
    Thankful
    The Christmas Song
    What Child is This
    The First Noel
    Petit Papa Noel
It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
    Panis Angelicus
    O Come All Ye Faithful

I have come to hate just about every carol there is because in my area we have not just one, not just two, but THREE radio stations playing Christmas music CONSTANTLY and will continue to do so until Dec. 26th. Makes me want to defenestrate myself.

My mother used to play "Holy City" on the piano. I loved that. The piano is gone now.

I also have a bunch of covers by the Chieftains that are lovely. Otherwise, I've grown to hate Christmas, and that saddens me. I believe in the spirit of the season more now than I did when I was a child, but I see the holiday as a reminder of poverty and abandoned people. That's MY problem, of course.

EDIT: Elvis is good too! We have his Christmas music.
