So will the exchange disappear from the news feed of my friends (who are not themselves friends with the status owner)?

At this point the question is theoretical (but I'd still like to know). A few hours is forever in Facebook time.

I'm never doing anything on Facebook again.

    Friend request sent, Economica!

    Only kidding.

I think this applies to this situation:

    From: Help Center | Facebook

How can I change the Publisher Control setting after I have published something?
For any content that you can edit (e.g., photo albums, videos, or notes), you can retroactively change the Publisher Control setting by finding the content you wish to edit and then changing the privacy setting.

For content that can't be edited (e.g., status updates or links), you cannot change the Publisher Control after you click "Share." Instead, you can delete the content from your Wall, which will remove it from your friends' home pages. To delete a post, hover over it on your Wall and click the "Remove" button. You can then republish the same content with the correct privacy controls.

Note that retroactive steps you take to change the setting or remove the content wont prevent any further distribution off of Facebook that may result from the prior privacy setting enabling others to have access to and share the content.

if you comment on someone's status I believe that only people who are friends with that person can see it. But people who are friends with him, but not you, can also see your comments there.

    if that helps.

edit because I'm retarded: this only applies if that person's wall settings are set to private.

This doesn't say anything about how to remove activities such as "Economica commented on X's status" from my friends' news feeds, though. Judging from Elaur's friend's experience with deleting the 'single' update and still having it show up in friends' news feeds, I'm guessing I would have to delete the actual comments to prevent them from showing up.

    Thanks, everyone!

I think if you delete a comment it won't show up on other people's pages.

If you comment on someone's wall, friends of yours who aren't friends of theirs will see the "Economica posted on x's wall" notification, but will not see what you posted (or, for that matter, what they posted unless it's still on your wall). You can relax.

^ Doesn't that depend on her privacy settings? They could potentially click the link to her profile, or their friend's profile, and see things if she is using a "friends of friends" setting.
