Default reasons why roommates can be a pain....

Looks like we're in debt to the utilities again! ><

I swear, they tell me jack shit till the roof is coming down over our heads ><

for some odd reason everything now has to go into my name! How long do they expect me to stick around?! Ugh, looks like I'll be grabbing shit till I move out (hopefully this coming spring). I really, really, really need to throttle these guys ><. Anyway, this may mean I won't be around often and only be able to show up here from work. Try not to party too much if it happens.

i had a roommate who never gave me utility money, although he was supposed to, so i got behind on the electric bill and it ended up getting up to almost 1200 dollars. When i told him that i needed him to give me half the money he just sort of blew me off and moved out.

    i hate roommates.

Situation has changed, seems a breakup has happened because the girl who holds the rent account deposited a check in it that caused to bank to close the account. She has no idea where the check came from or who it was for, she just deposited it. :steam: Because of this her boyfriend (the person who was paying half of everything) has dumped her and moved back to his parents.

Don't feel too bad, it could be worse.

In college, near the end of the semester, I discovered that my roomate was using my mouthwash (drinking straight out of the bottle). I discovered this when I noticed floaties in it. Instantly realizing the horrifying possibilities, I immediately investigated further and found that he had no toothbrush, deodorant, or razor. :steam:

I was, however, relieved to see that he had his own underwear!

    So what? Like forgery? Ouch.

I had roommates who drank and through parties at 3 in the morning. I had a roommate who stole my debit card number so he could buy online porn. And I had roommates that threw my stuff outside and tried to kill my fish.

ugh *shudder* that's just nasty!!! sorry for you!

I think everyone knows my worst roommate story! Last year I lived with people who never ever washed the dishes though- we're talking mold growing on dishes and such- I eventually would give in and wash them out of a fear that I would develop some horrible disease from them! It wouldn't have bothered me half as much if the dishes didn't belong to me!

Mine occassionaly goes too long without showering and then sleeps on the couch. But that's really the only bad thing. He handles all of the bills and stuff which is awesome for me. I would hate living by myself. He knows about bills and everything and just comes to me when they are do and I right a check. A recent conversation:

Roommate: I see you didn't mail the bills.
Me: *uncaring expression* ah, damn...I'll do that today.
Roommate: It's cool. I really didn't expect you to. *laughs*
Me: alright cool! That's all you.

lol. my room-mate never did any cleaning, loved pillows (she had a mountain of 13), and was a dead sleeper.

One night (we sleep near the window together) I woke to a heavy thunderstorm, the windows were open, her mouth was open, and she was drinking rainwater, but still snoring away.

    We're best friends.

The biggest roommate problem I've encountered is a difference of opinion on what "clean" means.

Second biggest is the assumption that if I am in the room, I am receptive to a conversation no matter whether I am reading, watching television, or otherwise occupied.

This is far and away the #1 reason for roommate rows.

Like how they say 'money' is the #1 reason for divorce.

I listed it elsewhere (and with pride too, you don't live through that many people without some effort) but I've had over 20 roommates in different configurations. I got along and even befriended most of them and they truly were of ALL different backgrounds/ages/orientations/beliefs etc. I did however, have a few no-nos.

While cleanliness was the biggest specific area of conflict, feelings of ENTITLEMENT and unrealistic expectatinos are the #1 reason for roommate break-ups. It's hard to live with divas or high-maintenance people or the extremely self-absorbed. Period.

Some people feel like they own the space and you just live in it --and they don't. Most people just assume that their own idiosyncrasies, preferences, and habits, apply to everyone else and is 'normal'. I'm guilty of this too but I think overall I'm a relatively popular roommate. Some people honestly don't know how to (or really do not like to) live with other people and are better off living at home or otherwise solo. Some people really only hear what they want to.
