I think I remember reading that 1984 was his last book, and that he was sick when he was writing it. No wonder that book manages to be so effectively bleak, without a spot of light in it.

I'm that person that embodies pretty much everything that you hate. Might as well get used to it.

That may very well have saved us from his 1973 novel, "Oops, I Guess Socialism Works Better Than I Thought".
An argument is two people sharing their ignorance.

A discussion is two people sharing their understanding, even when they disagree.

It's actually pretty awesome. My favorite Doctor. Yes, more than Baker. Yes, more than Tennant.

Most of the time I think I'd be lucky to make it to that age.

Hmm, a lot of his writing was like that, I think that many of his earlier books are like that too, Animal Farm I think is the bleakest of them all and more so for the fact it got reduced to CIA propaganda and no one understood that Orwell felt it was the betrayal of socialism and not socialism itself which was the enemy.

Animal Farm has a very different tone to it, though. It seems not quite as bleak to me, although I suppose there is also a sense of futility underlying everything.

It's amazing how time and patience can solve potential issues... I don't have to deal with a "conflict of interest" situation.
