I'm terrified to admit that I'm beginning to think that behaviourism and BF Skinner may have been on to something, this is for me a truly terrifying and terrible thing.

I can see some specific applications of the theory, although I wouldn't generally put my perspective in that camp. There are some behaviors that are so external and thoughtless that behaviorism is helpful in moderating those.

On another note - I saw this and wanted to post it someplace, so this is as good as any.

Its a little like the idea that you dont change peoples minds by breaking their heads

I'm a soft determinist, I think anyone who has an abiding interest in psycho-analysis, analytical psychology or neo-freudians cant help but be, I mean that finding the theories valid enough to remain interested in them.

Although I think behaviourism goes beyond that, the only thing like it I imagine is the whole memetics things, that people are vassels which can become posssessed by mere ideas like an evil spirit in an exorcist tale or story. The concept of free will is more revoked than anything else and that is a terrible prospect or idea.

When I was a kid I was terrified of the devil, next to that vampires, now I knew that this was irrational because I knew vampires didnt exist and I believed I had certain protections from the devil but I had the fear anyway was that they'd first prey upon me but then that they'd make me in turn prey upon others or that I'd become an instrument and not a person.

Later being turned into a cyborg or a humanoid, Borg style, became a terror, this was years and years and years before those things had been imagined in sci fi, at least things like star trek, it had been imagined in Superman 3, I think, or Doctor Who, maybe, and what I imagined was on the LP sleeves of Iron Maiden records actually.
