@Qlip No one who looked at me would ever believe I'm half Japanese. Then again, no one would ever guess I'm one-quarter Mexican, but I am.
I love pickled/fermented vegetables, but I've never made them myself. I had no idea they smelled so bad. Adjectives fail me.
So do I, and neither have I.
I did open a package of pickled daikon yesterday and then took an embarrassing amount of time to figure out what smelled like ass. There's a kind of first wave of obvious smell from them, but then there's this qualitatively different yet subtly related lingering smell that was initially elusive. I feel now like I need to smell the fresh pickling fluid just to experience the whole journey.
