It's not awesome when it comes to phonology, in my opinion.
The only awesome thing about it is that it gives English a very broad vocabulary. Instead of "fixing it" (French origin) you could have "repaired it" (another of French origin) or "mended it" (Old English).
yeah, i see your point. i just kind of love the complexity of it. i realize not everyone is smitten with it as i am.
