09-27-2013, 08:30 AM #37092I haven't any right to criticise books, and I don't do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticise Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can't conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Everytime I read 'Pride and Prejudice' I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shin-bone.

I really wanted my derby name to be Stone Cold Jane Austen. Alas, it was not to be.

So my room mate was holding a fork and asks "why do I have this?" and I responded with "incase there's an intruder, you can stab them in the neck" seems perfectly reasonable to me
and she showed me this guy's penis, and I swear it looked like kokeshi doll or however you spell it

It was Hug Lyfe. At the time I was skating my league participated in this huge worldwide derby name registry so if a name was taken you couldn't use it, but after Whip It things kind of got crazy and literally every single name you would think of would already be taken, no matter how off the wall it seemed. I thought I was being super creative with Stone Cold Jane Austen but there was already a woman in Oklahoma or something who was actually an English lit professor in her day job. The league has since stopped participating in the registry so if I were skating now I could have been SCJA.
As for stories... I was my league's PR/Marketing committee head, which sounds all professional but often ended up being "keep drunk skaters from making fools of us when we're out of town for a game" duty. One girl tried to steal a Pabst Blue Ribbon banner from a venue. Most people were awesome but it does attract some... ah, interesting (read: crazy) people.
