I still wouldn't accept such a religion, but am I the only one who finds duotheistic religions like Zoroastrianism far less problematic than monotheistic religions like Christianity?

I have much greater problems with duotheism because it lends itself to manichean thinking, by extension the holocaust, monotheism is very, very different because God is neither good nor evil in any human sense but divine and the mysterious nature of good, evil, right and wrong as understood, embodied and enacted by a divinity is not revealed prescently to anyone.

This isnt a sop, its not an intellectual dodge, if you imagine someone who is totally unfamiliar with computers and faulty operating systems who loses work they could ascribe malice or evil or wickedness to the desk top computer or its programmes (if they know enough to make a distinction between hardware and software), perhaps even more so if they know that the problem could be "between computer and chair", but a programmer who is in full possession of the facts, who can see a greater picture, will know different.

MP you're unlikely to want to know maybe because I find that anytime we discuss these things its only a matter of retrenchment but I'd recommend You Shall Be Like Gods by Erich Fromm, its an athiestic or materialistic psychological reading of the old testament, it explains a lot of interesting ideas like monotheism, sin and redemption, human history and destiny without reference to supernaturalism.

That doesn't seem to be the opinion of most Christians by my observation.

First, a lot of them are very big on the idea that God is purely benevolent, a force of good. This is where the whole theodicy thing comes from. If god is all good and all powerful, why are there evil acts and why do good people suffer?

Second, plenty of Christians seem to claim to know at least some things about the ways of God. They say God is mysterious, but apparently not a complete mystery.

I suppose there'd be no relevant difference between monotheism and duotheism if the monotheistic deity were as vague and mysterious as you made it sound, but I do not understand that to be a common Christian position (and indeed I have doubts that it is your own).

I did say that God is good because God is good, God is always good.

If it does not seem so it is because its impossible to see the big picture. I thought I made that clear enough with what I said and perhaps it wasnt so.

Its all explained in Job, for modern readers Jung dedicated an entire book in response to Job, Fromm doesnt address that source exclusively but he does write well upon the old testament as a whole and the apparently different roles, names and intervention style ascribed to God by the writers of the time.

I'm a little confused how you were able to write that post after reading mine and drawing the conclusions that you did but then its not the first time to be honest. I've begun to believe that your approach to discussions are determined by a lot of things other than what's been written, too many filters, blinkers and distortion getting in the way.
