It's the regularity with which I do it that is under question.

Someone left me a rep suggesting I try an electric toothbrush. I already do use one, actually. I really should just floss more regularly.

And thank you for leaving the rep; by last night I'd forgotten all about the fact I have a dentist appointment today.

EDIT: More reps! I've heard of Stim-u-dents. Glorified, mint-flavoured toothpicks! I buy flossers, which are about as convenient to use as Stim-u-dents. I just don't use them as often as I should. I flossed absolutely every single day when I had an Oral-B Hummingbird, but when it broke I didn't bother replacing it. The flossing attachments were outrageously expensive.

I just need to get back in the habit, I don't really need a more 'convenient' means of doing it.

I don't hold that view either. It's definitely a 'real' job with quite real consequences. In my case though, it has become the latter- an alternative to something else.

My issue with it is priorities- it doesn't seem to be a good career choice for someone who wants to focus on substantial monetary and material gain, either in the short or the long run. That, and, while I'm supposedly good at dealing with peoples' problems, I don't like dealing with peoples' problems.

That feels like sacrificing my fingers to keep my teeth healthy.

Anyway, my cavities were "much deeper" than the dentist thought they'd be, and he's concerned the decay may have already spread to my nerves. And in the course of filling one he pointed out that he discovered another very small cavity that isn't worth filling at this point.

Soooo... the prospect of a root canal or two (; $$$!!!) is motivation to floss my teeth at least once, preferably twice or more, every single day.

So, I guess the glorified, mint-flavored string doesn't work any better than the toothpicks, especially if you don't use either one of them.
