    according to etymonline.com -

    cocktail (n.)
first attested 1806; H.L. Mencken lists seven versions of its origin, perhaps the most persuasive is French coquetier "egg-cup" (15c.; in English cocktay). In New Orleans, c.1795, Antoine Amédée Peychaud, an apothecary (and inventor of Peychaud bitters) held Masonic social gatherings at his pharmacy, where he mixed brandy toddies with his own bitters and served them in an egg-cup. On this theory, the drink took the name of the cup. Used from 1920s of any mix of substances (e.g. fruit, Molotov). Cocktail party first attested 1928.

(your updated definition makes more sense, even historically)
    03/23 06:06:58 EcK: lex

03/23 06:21:34 Nancynobullets: LEXXX *sacrifices a first born*
03/23 06:21:53 Nancynobullets: We summon yooouuu
    03/23 06:29:07 Lexicon: I was sleeping!

04/25 04:20:35 Patches: Don't listen to lex. She wants to birth a litter of kittens. She doesnt get to decide whats creepy

02/16 23:49:38 ygolo: Lex is afk
02/16 23:49:45 Cimarron: she's doing drugs with Jack

03/05 19:27:41 Time: You can't make chat morbid. Lex does it naturally.

People who use "u" in texts make me uncomfortable.

all undercase - i'm down. lolling and lmfaoing - acceptable. emoticons - a window into your digital soul.

    'how r u' - extreme negative prejudice.

Don't know how much it'll bend til it breaks.

I have seen that video before, but I didn't remember that it was made as a spoof of Hinterland Who's Who.

Hinterland Who's Who is a real series of Canadian public service announcements about wildlife. Coincidentally they recently celebrated their 50th anniversary and in just the last day or so three of their very first vignettes, long-lost black-and-white ones, were re-released on YouTube. See http://www.youtube.com/user/HinterlandWW.

Aside: just about every Canadian who has ever watched TV will recognize those dozen or so introductory notes on the flute. I wrote a post in this thread about "nationalistic/patriotic/folk songs" about "The Hockey Song" (a.k.a. "The Good Ol' Hockey Game"); I could have just as easily posted those few notes of a lone flute at the beginning of a Hinterland Who's Who vignette as something almost any Canadian would immediately recognize and I think most would think of very fondly.

(When you go to Hinterland Who's Who's website guess what you hear? )
