Peace on Earth, dammit

"In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled." Daniel 10:2-3

Today I've decided to embrace free market capitalism, particularly its value base, I'm going to spend the day reading Ayn Rand

The more one loves God, the more it is that having nothing in the world means everything, and the less one loves God, the more it is that having everything in the world means nothing.
Do not resist an evil person, but to him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer also the other. ~Matthew 5:39

The thought of being pinned down by a bigger, more muscular man after trying to hit him because of a fight is very appealing.
Plus points if the man is the languid, non-confrontational kind. Or the very nice kind you normally don't get in a fight with.<3

people say gay marriage is a slippery slope
and then other people point out that its a fallacy
but if we are able to genetically enhance animal sentience
then people actually will end up wanting rights to marry animals
(and so would the animals), and neocons will all be, like

I believe that there's a state in the US in which someone married their horse, in the time of the "old west" maybe, they did it though.

When it crosses a line into telling others how they should think, through all sorts of censure, how they should act, through pressure, policy or prohibitive laws, that's wrong headed.
No matter how much good intent there is, no matter what wrongs, past or present, its hoped it will ameliorate, no matter what compensation it is hoped it will be to outsiders or minorities, its still wrong headed, and it will end in greater misery than there was to begin with, not least for the very same people the idea was intended to help out.
The whole gay "marriage" thing is one of those things that bothers me because its evoked such strong, strong feelings, on all sides of the debate, and next to no serious thinking by any side of the debate or any persuasion, definitely not of the long, long term, long into the past and long into the future. Its a great, great shame because its a topic which should raise good questions about proportionality, minority-majority relations, norms and mores between generations. It sure hasnt.
