Sometimes is easy to get down and pessimistic about the state of the world. So it does help to know that our world is one in which this happened.

I was toying with the idea of more or less creating my own language recently. Considering how my thoughts work, it would have been amazing if I could have gotten farther, but as usual, the part of me that hates work shut down the idea. At least I got my ideas down before my motivation crashed; maybe sometime when I get really bored I can work on it some more. It could be fun if only to mess around with.

I tried this a few times when I was younger. I had a lot of fun inventing vocabulary, but grammar is harder/more tedious. Cool if you can do it!
Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.

This article ran in the New Yorker a couple months back. My take away was that people who invent languages successfully are just a touch obsessed; it's a sometimes life long passion project. It's really a fascinating read. I have a feeling it might be something @Lexicon would be into as well.

    Re: inventing your own language:

I dunno if you guys have heard of, or read, "The Magicians" by Lev Grossman -- I'd describe it as Harry Potter plus The Chronicles of Narnia as written by Bret Easton Ellis -- there's a really, really cool scene involving an entrance exam, and the exam requires making up your own language, describing its grammar, what part of the world it's from, etc. (Phenomenal book, by the way.)
EJCC: "The Big Questions in my life right now: 1) What am I willing to live with? 2) What do I have to live with? 3) What can I change for the better?"
Coriolis: "Is that the ESTJ Serenity Prayer?"

Bret Easton Ellis. In the 90's, when he came out with American Psycho, I called up my pals about midnight and read some excerpts, just to screw with them. They had no idea it was a satire. I can't believe how many people got worked up about that book when it was released. Women called Ellis a misogynist and sent him death threats.
