    You don't think any babies right now could live to January 1, 2101? A baby born on Dec. 11, 2012 would only have to be 88 years old. There are people still living today who experienced Jan. 1, 1901.

    Wouldn't that be 1/1/01? Doesn't quite have the same ring to it as 12/12/12.

    Yes, yes you are.

    You should use the ISO format; "yyyy-mm-dd", e.g. today is 2012-11-28. No ambiguity, and it makes filing by date on a computer incredibly easy.
