It's apparently a thing, chasing a raccoon up a tree as a competitive event. http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/...oon_treei.html
    Whoops.

For some reason, all I can think of is the episode on The Simpsons where Bart's fallen down a well [after pranking the town with a 2way radio in the same well, therein creating a 'boy who cried wolf' scenario]-- & Homer finally decides to take a shovel to try to dig him out... the townspeople become fascinated & join in.. some old man yells out to an inquiring bystander, something to the effect of, ''C'MON! WE'RE HAVIN' AN OLD FASHIONED HOLE DIGGIN'!'' ----This raccoon treeing activity reminds me of that excited old man.

I'm pretty sure I read about raccoon treeing in one of those depressing youth books they read you in school where the dog dies in the end. 'Where the Red Fern Grows' maybe, or was it 'Old Yeller'?

Other than New Year's, graduation parties, birthdays, and weddings, who the hell throws a random party for themselves and invites a huge mishmash of people who only know the host?

I'd a similar experience myself earlier, so glad not to be directly involved and going to steer clear of that crap. Genuine mental health issues and emotional health and well being issues looming large for a lot of people with poor, poor ability to reflect, learn and grow.
