    Google the phrase: using dashes.

Here's a site that gives some examples, as well as the keyboard commands for the en and em dash:

Yes, my fingers are broken. Thanks for making me feel worse about it--Jag!

My comp doesn't connect them and the 0151 thing just took me the FAQ page.

Edit: Actually the only place I have ever seen it used is on this forum. I just assumed it was a new trend--there wouldn't be information about it out there.

You've never seen dashes used in writing, outside this forum? Perish the thought.
I wasn't trying to make you feel bad.

As far as your computer is concerned, you should have a numeric keypad to the right of the enter key, and you should also have number keys at the top of your keyboard. They are not the same, and they are not used for the same functions.

If I use the number keys at the TOP of my keyboard, alt+ 0151 will not work. If I use the numeric keypad on the right, it will work. You have to lift up your left finger on the alt key as soon as you have finished keying in 0151 with your right finger, on the keypad. Otherwise, the Em dash — will not appear.

If you try again and it still doesn't work, throw your computer out the window.
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country . . . wait, this is 2016.

Seems all the interesting people live too far away from me.

Just watched Saving Private Ryan, and I was by far more upset by Upham not killing anyone, than by any of the blood, gore, or killing. Is that weird?
