No way. K.D. Lang's version of Hallelujah pwns. The others don't really have the pipes to really nail the song. A great song though, I agree.

Take Me To The River has at least four good versions.

    Al Green (original).
    Talking Heads.
    The Commitments.
    Annie Lennox.
    Go to sleep, iguana.

    U2- One- Johnny Cash.

Johnny Cash was basically the best at covering songs, hands down.

Most of the songs I would've noted have been posted already. Here's some more. Also, anything written by Bob Dylan, and then covered by somebody else are dead giveaways. Though I'm not a huge fan of Bob Dylan I still like his songs.

All along the watchtower <- Jimi Hendrix
Knocking on heavens door <- Eric Clapton, Guns 'n Roses
Maggies Farm <- Rage Against The Machine
    etc.

    As for other songs.

Coldplay -> Violet Hill <- Pendulum
The Zombies -> She's not there <- Santana
Neil Young -> Cinnamon Girl <- Type O Negative
The Beatles -> Come Together <- Aerosmith
The Beatles -> Day Tripper <- Type O Negative
Jimi Hendris -> Little Wing <- Stevie Ray Vaughan
Paul McCartney -> Live and Let Die <- Guns 'n Roses
Led Zeppelin -> No Quarter <- Tool
David Bowie -> The Man Who Sold the World <- Nirvana

"Wild World" - original by Cat Stevens, best remake by Maxi Priest

"You Move Me" - original by Susan Ashton, remake by Garth Brooks

"Puttin' On The Ritz" - the original was actually Harry Richman, but the Fred Astaire version made it famous, and Dutch artist Taco did an awesome remake in 1983.

"Handy Man" - original by Jimmy Jones, remakes by Del Shannon and James Taylor

"Wild Horses" - original by The Rolling Stones, remake by The Sundays

"In Your Eyes" - original by Peter Gabriel, remake by Jill Parr

Those are the first ones that popped in my head.
