I think it's just a physical representation of how we like to make people feel -- when we are talking to someone, it's like they are the only important person in the room and, to us, they glow.

But sharpies have their place, too. Like on your kid's lunchbox.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

"All authority of any kind, especially in the field of thought and understanding, is destructive and evil. Leaders destroy the followers and the followers destroy the leaders. You have to be your own teacher and your own disciple. You have to question everything that man has accepted as valuable, as necessary."

I work next to an ENFP. And she highlights even the stuff that doesn't need to be highlighted with different colors, just so it's more distinct.

If she prints out something for someone and something needs highlighted. It's like receiving a painting. I find it pretty cute, as long as she does not take too much time to do so. As I'm not paying her to highlight stuff.

I use sharpies more than highlighters. But I always carry a pen with me.
