"If I have the TV on, I get anxious that I am missing something in the real world that would be a lot more interesting." should have been an option.
    I don't wanna!

I only use the TV to play video games on. I haven't actually watched anything on there in a very long time. I watch shows on the internet.

    Take it or leave it.

I did watch with my eldest last night 'The Chronicles of Riddick' but other than that, i don't really bother. If i am bored i will channel surf. Now the kid is using the TV for his 360 (why use a 14" when you can use the 37" HD).
I should really cancel cable. Lol.

I hate TV, I never watch it, my set has been off for months, and I despise people who blare it all the time.

That being said, I love movies, and have no problem at all with quality films and music videos that I enjoy being played at a moderate level, or even louder at reasonable times.

I like the tv if it's on something I want to watch. If it isn't, I can't stand it. I don't like it any louder than it needs to be for me to hear it, which is lower than most people. I especially don't like tv on in more than one room of the house, on different chanels. Or, for example, in the waiting room of my car dealership, where the tv is on and all the chairs are facing the tv, but right next to that, there is music piped in. One or the other, or someone has to die.

I need to have sound around me but it doesn't need to be the TV.

I think television has simultaneously gotten worse & better. Worse, in the sense that there are simply less real TV shows on because they have been replaced with "reality" shows and Dateline-style airtime fillers. Better, in the sense that the shows that remain are generally higher quality. For example: House, Lost, Heroes, Grey's Anatomy, NCIS, The Mentalist, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, etc. The sitcoms are more clever and more funny, and the dramas are well-written and less formulaic than in previous decades...

There are some weeks I only watch a couple of hours of TV all week. Other weeks, I watch a lot of movies and shows on DVD. For example, I'll breeze through a season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Babylon 5 in 3-5 days. Anymore, I really prefer to enjoy shows this way when it's an option and the narrative structure of the writing can stand up to such a chronological assault...

I don't hate TV, I just didn't watch it while I was in Africa for a year in 2006, and then I never returned to watching it. (Occasionally watch pay per view movies.)
