Default What microphone should I buy?

I'm looking to buy a microphone, chord, and stand for use in practicing singing in my room with loud guitar playing. I have an amp I can use, I just need the mic, chord, and stand. I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I don't want to cheap out too much either. Any suggestions?

For loud "live" vocals, I'd go with the tried-and-true: Shure SM-58.

Buy Shure SM58 Mic | Dynamic Microphones | Musician's Friend

For recording singing only, I'd go with a reasonable large-diaphram condenser like an AT2020 at the low-mid end:

Buy Audio-Technica AT2020 USB Condenser Microphone | Condenser Microphones | USB Microphones | Musician's Friend

to something like the AT4040 in the mid:

    Buy Audio-Technica AT4040 Large-Diaphragm Studio Condenser Mic | Condenser Microphones | Musician's Friend

And no, I don't work for musician's friend, but I am a musician myself and buy lots of stuff from them.

Yah, I'm looking for live probably cause it's just to practice in my room. I want to be able to hear myself well with loud guitar playing. I don't intend to record any time soon.

Then go with the 58, definitely.

    *edit*

You can record with the 58 too, it just won't sound exactly like recordings made with vocal mics (which might be a good thing, depending on what you're looking for).

I don't have any personal experience with that particular mic, but I have a feeling it will serve your needs. That package price looks pretty good, too.

My friend wants to charge me more than that thing is offering... so I guess I'll just take that deal and tell my friend that he should just buy a mic amp and actually use that mic (the only reason he doesn't use it is cause he doesn't have an amp for it)
