    Default C-Section vs. Natural Birth

Someone's signature here made me think of this.

Who else was born C section?

Just curious. Once I read something saying that babies born naturally had a advantage of having their heads compressed as they came out like it stimulated the brain and the glands in the head or something other such nonsense. It was some natural doc, but I forget where I read it.

I was. My sister was. My son was.

    All brilliant, of course.

    I... suppose. Yeah!

I was breech and uncooperative, so C-section. Perhaps the hypoxia from kinking off the umbilical cord stimulated my brain in lieu of squashing my head through the birth canal since I am also brilliant.

Yeah, that's my way of saying "hooey on that theory".

Believe it or not, I was a "frank" breech, and my mother delivered me naturally in less than two hours. Not sure that I had any advantage in being born that way but it was probably an omen of things to come for my poor mother. I came out mooning the world and I've been doing it ever since.

All three of my boys were natural, and I'm very grateful. I was back in the gym with two of the three within two weeks (had to wait a bit longer after child number two because of some very minor tearing).

My Mom had toxemia and I was taken a month and half before my expected due date by C section.

Oooo! Definitely not a good scene. I had it (my BP shot up to 170/110 and I put on almost 35 lbs in a matter of a couple weeks, it was crazy!) with my first one and was induced as a result. It's a pretty scary deal. I was fortunate in that I was already at least at my due date so getting him out only took 17 hours and the final stage was less than ten minutes.

As much as it's romanticized, pregnancy pretty much sucks. I love being a mom, but if there was a way to have had my own biological children without carrying them I would have done it in a heartbeat. I know a lot of women just love being pregnant, but I never found it to be an enjoyable experience. The labor and delivery were, in my opinion, the best part. I finally got to meet the little "invaders" and give them hugs/kisses.

C-section for me because I was a naughty baby. Breech position and they couldn't get me turned around.

I was also underweight and had jaundice... but that's a whole other story.

I've heard the smoothness of birth affects face symmetry... Not sure how intelligence is affected by this. I was a clever enough cookie compared to my brother who's natural birth. *shrugs* Who knows.
