What do visitor messages have to do with rep? And what the heck is rep? (where, maybe?)

I had a similar experience a few months ago.

It's easy, just give them a rep point back.
By "rep point" do you mean "comment"? Are comments on the rep wall and rep points the same thing? This. Is. More. Confusing. Than. It. Should. Be.

    There there

Yes, when you leave a rep point, you usually leave a comment(although you don't have to, it'll just show up blank if you do that). And that comment shows up on your User CP.

after reading the help a while ago i still don't fully understand the point collecting system, but my impression so far is, that it does not matter, because the whole feature has only been partially activated by the administration and its in an incoherent state (which is not reflected completely by the help file). all comments i get are listed as neutral, which raises the impression that positive and negative reputations are not even possible. so maybe that is why the point score always remains at 10. yet when i click on the balance sign, the interface pretends to allow me to give a positive OR negative rep. i have never tried the negative one, and if i would, i could not tell if that even becomes visible to the addressee

OK. OK. So. A rep point and a comment are NOT the same thing? But they can go together? Does the act of leaving a comment automatically leave a rep point or what?

(not your fault, Peguy, I'm just easily frustrated)

Can I introduce you to this thread?

I haven't had the same problem with rep comments, but my mind tends to tune out most stuff on webpages as irrelevant, so it took me months and months to work out how to do multiquote and that was only because someone mentioned it in a post once.
