Bravo for having a thread title that made me lol!

    For me
    1. Number of people in the line.

    2. If they have a trolly, hand basket or are carrying items in their hands. I'd use a ratio of 3-4 baskets per trolly, 2-3 carrying items per basket.

    3. The age/demographic of linees. Young single customers are likely to speed though and not insist on price checking. Whatever you do, avoid lines with pensioners or lonely housewives, they like to chatter and often times forget that one last item they need to disappear to get.

    4. Potential for nearby checkout opening, that's a big win when that happens.

    5. The checkout operator. If they are filling in from the shelf-stocking area and don't understand how the swipee thing works I avoid.

Yeah, I was going to say, one old person = 3 or 4 younger people.

    4. Potential for nearby checkout opening, that's a big win when that happens.
I constantly scan for checkouts opening, I'm like a checkout hawk.

Yeah I do check for openings. That would make it 4 for me. I do consider age but not consistently enough.

You obviously haven't been stuck behind the old guy counting out his change purse often enough then.

If I see anyone with a checkbook out I'm gone, regardless of line length.
I like to rock n' roll all night and *part* of every day. I usually have errands... I can only rock from like 1-3.

Do i gotta take a wiz? If so, how bad. If not, i get behind the (NF) old one who is aware of the youths impatients.
everyone uses every function about evenly. take NE for example. if there are those who don't use it much, then why are there such massive amounts of people constantly flowing through Wallmart with 20 items or less?

    nice topic.

    in order of importance:

    -length of line
-volume of stuff in people's carts
-age of people in line (mainly old lady-watch)
-if I get to that point, the estimated speed of cashier, but I usually forget this one

    so, 4?
    -end of thread-
