Default Mindless Banter V.S Intellectual Conversation

My stance is that I enjoy both, but I grow tired of an excess of either and lose attention quickly.. One is not more desired or respected above another though.

Intellectual conversation seems to stimulate the thinking process and gives insight to other people's perspectives and educations, on the other hand you learn a lot more about a person and generally life itself is ran on mindless banter. It's easy, ground-level topics that cross all boundaries.

I think both are necessary when it comes to socializing, and it's unhealthy to dislike one or the other.

So I guess my question is: Why do you dislike one or the other and why? Or are ya'll like me and are content no matter which way the conversation bends?

I do a lot of study on my own and when I come to message board I usually don't have the energy for anything but banter and light topics. I think it's just the nature of message boards, but then again I'm Feeler so I don't tend to want to show my thinking so freely on the outside.

Things are always wrapped up in some sort of Q and A format for me. I have a tendency to always pull towards the abstract and theoretical, or dodge questions till I can answer without being hyper specific and concrete.

I'm pretty erratic but it depends on my mood and mental state. I'm much more apt to turn into mindless banter when I'm inebriated or under the influence of another substance. The tether is always towards the latter though. With people who aren't that familiar with me I wont engage that aspect so readily but it's definitely on my mind. It leaks through as well, it's not as hidden as I would think. I try not to be too blunt about it. I've learned to control it a lot better with age.
My cold, snide, intellectual life is just a veneer, behind which lies the plywood of loneliness.

Hm.. ^_^ These are my thoughts in general, but I've noticed, it seems especially in Vent, people get frustrated VERY easily with mindless banter.

    Yeah really.

I don't see how all banter and fluff has to be mindless. It's like sitcoms, they don't get much respect as an art form, but there is still good and bad sitcoms.
