I'm mostly joking. It's all our money, but he's the one that gets a paycheck. It's just more fun to feel like I'm spending his money. I'd much rather have an iPhone or a better computer or vacation, which is why I qualified being in a better financial situation. I'd have to have already gotten the vacation and electronics before jewelry would show up on the radar at all.

One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

True, but I'm 90% sure she'd rather spend the same amount on books if she had to choose.

It's kinda crazy, but if I ever get married, she had better expect nothing but a rather plain ring made of titanium with a platinum inlay, because I hate all rings with anything stuck on/in them. They need to last for the rest of your life, and possibly longer, so you should go for reliability, wearability (lightness), and clean, timeless design.

I would, however, have it custom made to my exact specifications, or even buy the equipment and make it myself.

That's so cool. This is a sensible and humorous idea, I like it.

I don't think much of diamonds visually (compared to other gems), but there's something pretty cool about giving someone a chunk of the hardest substance on earth as a symbol of your love. It could be opaque and brown and I would still think it's cool. Setting it in gold seems to defeat the purpose somewhat.

I don't know. If I were ever to give a lady a set of titanium reinforced brass knuckles and ask her to be my wife, I might throw a diamond or two in there, just so's she could bleed whoever is fucking with her.

Or skip the rock altogether, and have a kickin' honeymoon.

Now you people are talking my language! (The only thing to add is that might just have a kick ass(er) wedding instead... we'll see.)

In our area, however, to get a little little bungalow housey thing, we'd need about $125,000. (edit: let me clarify - For a downpayment). The ring won't quite cover that If you think I'm kidding, this is literally the cheapest house for sale in the same area I am in. And only 57 years old! WHOOO!

No fear, man, Canada ramped faster than the US, and when the US crashes, you'll crash harder than we will (too close a trading partnership with us)... It's still much, much cheaper than where I live, especially when you consider the exchange rate...
