Actually, in law school, I used to go out for runs with my iPod mini (yeah, back in the early 90s or whatever) on Friday nights when everyone was out. It's empowering to stand out of the crowd and keep your independence.

I LOVED and still LOVE social psych. I wanted to get a subscription to Personality & Social Psychology because they have the best articles. My favorite class in college was Social Psych and film. We watched movies, read articles, then wrote papers. The teacher was brilliant.

The thing that people, imo, don't get about social psych is that understanding the theories isn't the hard part. The hard part is in seeing the world that way and putting your observations into a neat and elegant package. Very graceful.

That's interesting. I didn't know that about you. Is it something you just live with, or something you try to change? (I won't make this into a therapy session, I promise.)

Then I had to run like hell from the police cause they were breaking up a party I was at and an old friend of mine I ran into was using my pipe to smoke weed on the street cause the party had overflowed to the sidewalk. The cop pulled over just across the street from him as he finished so I had to dash, but I admit that was kind of a rush. By the time my group of guys was settled in with a group of girls I was totally burned out and needed to just go home, so I barely even talked to them. I'm not like a player or anything so I probably wouldn't have got anything had I been normal anyway. I need more then one night to make an impression most of the time cause I take a few meetings to warm up to people.

I don't know, it was just one of those nights you expect to be awesome that ends up being full of a lot of conflict and it just doesn't work out on any level.
That sounds like major drama, but also something you'll look back at and say "that was a fucking crazy night." You might even use it as a story to break the ice next time you see one of those girls. *nudge nudge*

Social Psychology was actually one of the two things I debated majoring in when I decided to attend college. The other was political science. Now I'm not so sure about either of them.

Difficult to answer. I know what the sources of my depression are, I know that some can be changed and some cannot. The motivation in my life is typically systematically go through removing these sources of depression, based on some ratio of how depressing they are and how plausible they are to change. For example, I am extremely depressed by being single of my life, but I know it's insane to think I could change that, so it's my primary target.
Societal issues are much harder to impact. Existential issues are impossible to change by my measure. My feeling is that if I cannot change what depresses, I will not hide from it either. I will face it.

So, I guess you could say that while I want to make the abyss as small as possible, I do not intend to stop looking into it.

(I'm tired, so I can't tell if what I say makes sense to other people at all).
